Reflections of Pentecost 2026

On Sunday, May 25, 2026, the Church celebrated Pentecost! Pentecost is the 50th day after Good Friday, the day that Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world. Amen. During Jesus’ earthly ministry, there were many things that He taught that His beloved disciples were not able to fully understand at the time of His teaching. The mystery of His return back to the Father was one of them.
“But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you. I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I am going to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you” – John 16:4-7 ESV.
Sorrow filled the heart of Jesus’ beloved disciples when they heard Him tell them that He was leaving them. This same Jesus, their rabbi, ministered unto them His love. Yes, He taught them. Yes, they were eyewitnesses of His many miracles and supreme authority over demons and death. But the 11 faithful disciples clung to Jesus in love. It grieved their hearts when He said He was leaving them. The AMP version of John 16:6 says that “sorrow has filled your hearts [and taken complete possession of them].”
They had found the One whom their souls loved and Who loved them with a pure love and now, the prospect of life without Him was too grievous to imagine.
In John 6:66-68, we learn of the disciples love and profound dependence upon Jesus. Upon the reading of this text, we are transported into the heart of our LORD and become one with the rejection and pain He felt when “many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him”. Scripture leaves these disciples nameless for us. But Jesus knew them by name. He knew them intimately. He loved them. He cared for their souls. Yet, they left Him. In that heart posture- rejection, abandonment, sadness, humility, Jesus as a man, turns to the twelve and asks them, “will you also go away?” Will you also leave Me? Will you also reject Me? Will you take your love from Me? My heart is breaking as I type this. But His servant “Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life’.”
Now just a mere few chapters later in John 16, Jesus was telling these faithful and chosen disciples that He was leaving them. I’m sure their hearts were crying out in the midst of shock, grief and sorrow, “where shall we go Lord? You have the words of eternal life”!
But Jesus didn’t leave them, nor us, comfortless. Jesus said, “But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father – the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].” John 16:13 AMP.
Two days ago, the Church celebrated Pentecost. Hallelujah! The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. My heart is meditating upon this; all truth. What does this mean, Jesus? Holy Spirit passes love notes from the one whom our soul loves, Jesus, unto us and vice-versa. The truth that Holy Spirit is leading and guiding us to is that we are the Bride of Christ. The truth that Holy Spirit is leading and guiding us to is how we are to adorn our souls with the gifts and the treasures that Jesus gives us, through the Holy Spirit, for the sole purpose of being pleasing in His sight. Holy Spirit is guiding us into the truth of how to make ourselves ready for the presentation of our bodies to Jesus, our Bridegroom, at our wedding day.
Holy Spirit gives us gifts to adorn our soul and make us even more beautiful to Jesus.
He pours upon us 7 anointings for our inner man according to Isaiah 11:1-3; wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge and fear of the LORD. He gifts us 9 graces to edify the Body and fulfill our ministries according to 1 Corinthians 12:7-1; word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues, interpretation of tongues. They were released to us again on Pentecost Sunday; everyone according to our need, according to our desire and most importantly, according to God’s love and purpose for us. Hallelujah!
I pray that we are feeling the fullness of His love as He presses in to saturate and fill every place of our bodies from the crown of our heads to the soles of our feet and all parts in between. I pray that we are feeling the weight of His glory on our shoulders as we carry the presence of the living God, His oracle, His tabernacle, His word within us and upon us as lights for the unbelievers all throughout the world to see. I pray that we are like little children on Christmas eagerly searching the manual for “how do we use this new gift” and beaming with glee when we discover a new feature that we never knew existed. May we be in the manual, the Word of God, for directions and instructions on how to operate in this fresh pour. May the miracles and wonders of God bring us to the heights of exuberance and joy only found in God. May we hear the voice of the Holy Ghost telling us, “this is the way, walk ye in it”.
In Jesus mighty name we pray and we believe and we say thank You. Amen
